72-Hour Grindstone Family Readiness Guide

What Would You Grab First?

It seems like every week brings reports of another tornado, flood, hurricane, or severe storm somewhere in the country. While many of us focus on stocking up on food, water, and batteries, we forget about another area of preparedness that often gets overlooked.

If you had only five minutes to leave your home, would you know exactly where your important documents are?

One of the simplest steps you can take is creating a secure lock box containing the documents and information your family would need if disaster hit.

Ask yourself, if you had only five minutes to evacuate, what would you take with you?

Many people don't realize how hard recovery can be when important paperwork is lost or destroyed. Insurance claims, financial assistance, medical care, and rebuilding efforts often begin with proving who you are and what you own.

  • Birth certificates, driver's licenses, Social Security cards, and passports.

  • Property deeds and vehicle titles.

  • Home, auto, health, and life insurance policies.

  • Important financial records and account information.

  • Medical records, prescriptions, and allergy information.

  • Legal documents such as wills, powers of attorney, and custody papers.

  • Emergency cash in small bills.

  • A USB drive containing digital copies of important documents and family photos.

  • A written list of emergency contacts.

  • Spare keys and other essential access items.

The goal is to create peace of mind, not instill fear.

The teams at Grindstone Ministries have met many families whose lives were turned upside down by a storm. Time and again, we've seen how the preparations made before a disaster can make the recovery process smoother and faster afterward.

You don't have to do everything today. Start with one document. Then another. Before long, you'll have a system in place that could save you hours of frustration and uncertainty when you need it most.

Preparedness isn't about expecting the worst. It's about being ready if the unexpected happens.
