Rural Fire / Personnel
& Property Protection
With seasonal wildfires and drought across the country we need to be aware what to do to protect our people, property, and neighbors from fire damage.

To prevent wild fires avoid causing…
Extreme heat, sparks from equipment or vehicles, and un-extinguished cigarettes and cigars
Natural causes…
Lightning, wind storms, or even natural static electric charges
Unfortunately arson is also common…
Always keep “High traffic” areas clear of fuel sources
Always make sure fire is completely extinguished before leaving the area.
-
Never leave a fire unattended
-
Fire has to have three elements to exist: HEAT/OXYGEN/FUEL
-
To easily remember this use the Fire Triangle
-
Fuel is the easiest element to control, keep your property tidy
-
For heat keep a reliable source of water close by and avoid making sparks
-
Once a fire is lit, its oxygen supply is typically controlled by smothering the flames. You can use fire extinguishers, fire blankets etc.
Awareness…
Always be on the lookout for smoke. If you smell smoke, be alert and patrol the area. Listen for storms, sirens, and even monitor your area’s fire department radio frequencies. Track storms and look for distant lightning.

Have a plan…
When a fire breaks out on your property, have a plan ready. Fire can move a lot faster than you think. Make sure everyone knows where to meet and train accordingly.
